Project Controls Manager

Aecon is a leading construction company with a strong presence in Canada's infrastructure and transportation networks. We're seeking a highly skilled Project Controls Manager to join our team and contribute to the success of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement project controls guidelines and responsibilities within a business unit or Project Execution Plan.
  • Implement tools and systems necessary to effectively manage, control, and report on earned value management, cashflow, cost, revenue, forecasting, and schedule for projects.
  • Provide guidance to project controls and operations/project management teams to recognize emerging issues, leverage lessons learned, and drive toolset/process adoption.
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Operations, and Finance personnel to develop methodologies that enhance accuracy of project-level financial forecasting.
  • Attend and contribute to Handover and Kick-Off meetings.
  • Provide project controls input on commercial, administrative, and reporting requirements during project setup.
  • Oversee scheduling functions to ensure projects meet standards and target completion dates.
  • Conduct detailed review and analysis of project performance control and reporting to understand and articulate key metrics and trends.
  • Ensure management is provided with timeline review and progress of all projects and activities, including completion of monthly project status reports and forecasting reporting.
  • Oversee and support project change management, including subcontractor claims, change requests, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Identify commercial risks and develop mitigation measures to ensure project control deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities for Project Controls improvement for management review and consideration.
  • Develop, update, and manage Risk Mitigation Plans.
  • Create and maintain a diverse culture.
  • Guide and mentor direct reports.
  • Key partner to Estimators, Project Managers, Operations teams, and Senior Leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with external clients, partners, vendors, and subcontractors as required.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating, and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management principles.
  • Ability to produce, read, and modify schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
  • Leadership and team building skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead a project controls team.
  • Proven strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and customer-focused.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of SAP and required project controls software, which may include Primavera, Hard Dollar, Accubid.
