Job Summary:
Pro Vita Care Management Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Recreation Manager to join our team at AgeCare Malaspina Care Residence in Nanaimo. As a Recreation Manager, you will be responsible for promoting a culture of Person and Family-Centred Care (PFCC) by designing, implementing, and reviewing recreation programs that cater to the needs of our residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a culture of Safety as a Priority by ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Supervise the day-to-day work of the Recreation Team, including coordinating program assignments, evaluating employee performance, and determining training and development requirements.
- Create, organize, and implement therapeutic recreation programs, such as arts and crafts, exercise, music, woodworking, cooking, baking, gardening, outings, and other social programs.
- Manage the Recreation departmental budgets, purchasing and inventorying Recreation supplies and equipment accordingly.
- Manage all records and documentation, including assisting with MDS data entry, in relation to recreation therapy programs and residents' progress.
- Teach, direct, and demonstrate activities to residents, staff, and volunteers.
- Work within interdisciplinary teams to identify and respond to residents', employees', and volunteers' needs.
- Responsible for training, supervision, and evaluation of Recreation Aides.
Requirements:
- Post-Secondary degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field, plus comprehensive knowledge of recreation and health care practices and techniques as they relate to long-term care.
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience in gerontology with 3 years management experience.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbal and written.
- Organized, dependable, and flexible, with a positive attitude.
- Strong skills in decision-making, problem-solving, and communicating with various stakeholders from many backgrounds.
- Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to plan, set priorities, and manage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eligible for membership in BC Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
- Previous experience working with volunteers and the public in some capacity.
- Basic to intermediate level computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Holds and Maintains a Valid Class 4 BC driver's license.
