About the Role

The National Arts Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Carpenter to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for supporting the Technical Directors in the timely execution of quality scenery for productions.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Technical Directors to ensure seamless execution of scenery projects
• Develop and maintain a high-performing Carpentry Workshop team
• Supervise and coordinate crews to meet project deadlines and budget constraints
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with artists, clients, and colleagues
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Scenic Workshop Head or Production Carpenter in a professional theatre environment
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
• Valid certification for Forklift Operation, Elevating Work Platforms, First Aid, and Working at Heights
• Metal working skills and experience with automated scenic elements are assets
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCad and VCarve Pro
• Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset
