About the Role

The Commercial Banking Relationship Manager plays a key role in driving the success of Scotiabank's Commercial Banking business in Canada. This individual will be responsible for executing specific goals, plans, and initiatives in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The successful candidate will ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies to promote the growth of the commercial banking portfolio in assigned market areas.
  • Build and maintain a market profile in assigned market areas through internal and external contacts.
  • Manage an assigned credit portfolio for authorizations up to $5MM at an acceptable level of risk.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to maximize business development opportunities for sustainable growth.
  • Develop sales plans for prospects and existing customers.
  • Identify prospects/referrals from internal and external networks.
  • Analyze prospect lists and prioritize business development opportunities based on market data and customer analytics.
  • Partner with internal resources for non-credit related products.
  • Refer customers and prospects to the appropriate Commercial Banking segment and partners as needed.
  • Plan and complete relationship activities that generate sales opportunities and/or provide value to clients.
  • Stay informed about local market and general economic conditions.
  • Contribute to a high-performance environment and foster an inclusive work environment.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Undergraduate degree in business or economics or equivalent work experience.
  • Other training requirements as determined by Scotiabank from time to time.
  • Previous work experience of at least 2 years or completion of Scotiabank's Training Program is preferred.
  • Strong sales/closing skills, strong networking ability, strong negotiation skills, good credit skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Scotiabank's commercial lending and deposit products and services, as well as customer profitability models, to provide integrated financial solutions.
  • Ability to conduct due diligence on customer financials for deals of lower to moderate complexity.
  • Good knowledge of Onboarding, Know Your Customer, Anti Money Laundering processes.
  • Good PC skills, including a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other commercial systems and platforms.

Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French, as they will work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English and serve an English and French-speaking clientele frequently.
