Job Summary:

Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a highly skilled hydrogeologist or engineer to join our team as an entry- to mid-level professional. The selected candidate will assist with challenging projects related to investigation and remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine tailings management, planning and development, and long-term closure strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze air, soil, surface water, sediment, and groundwater samples for field screening and laboratory analysis.
  • Assist with environmental site assessments, develop and review environmental compliance documents, and analyze environmental data.
  • Perform construction oversight activities, including siting industrial groundwater production wells and deep injection wells.
  • Evaluate potential aquifer performance and injection capabilities, assist with conceptual site model development, aquifer test performance and analysis, and work plan and report preparation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3 or more years of work experience directly related to hydrogeologic evaluations and/or remediation of contaminated groundwater.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail.
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs.
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering Co.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience directly related to the responsibilities above.
  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology.
  • Expertise in developing, monitoring, and managing mine tailings areas; development of complex and dynamic conceptual site models; and contaminant fate and transport.
  • Experience in completing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including aquifer test implementation and analysis with computer software programs.
  • Familiarity with groundwater modeling software and data inputs required for numerical modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport.
  • Currently registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
  • Current holder of a Saskatchewan Mine Safety Awareness Training or other provincial equivalents.
  • Familiarity with local environmental regulations, including knowledge of provincial environmental regulations.

Work Arrangement:

A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr Engineering Co. office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, office.

Important Notes:

  • Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
  • Job assignments may involve work on mine sites, waste disposal sites, and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials.
