About the Role:

The successful candidate will join our team as a Mechanical Engineer - Mid Level, working closely with multidisciplinary project teams to provide technical expertise and support. This role will primarily serve mining and heavy industrial clients, with project work involving industrial system design, preparation of design/construction drawings and specifications, engineering calculations and analyses, equipment selection, and technical reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with project teams to provide mechanical engineering expertise and support
  2. Design and develop industrial systems, including fluid transfer, bulk material handling, and plant layout
  3. Prepare design/construction drawings and specifications, and complete engineering calculations and analyses
  4. Select equipment and components, and write technical reports
  5. Develop details of designs and prepare cost estimates and bid packages
  6. Participate in short-term, out-of-town trips as required

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
  2. 5+ years of related work experience
  3. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or ability to obtain within one year
  4. Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software
  5. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  6. Strong writing ability
  7. Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  8. Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  9. Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  10. Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship
  11. Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship or the ability to obtain a TN Visa
  12. Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial workplace
  2. Experience with Revit and/or Solidworks software
  3. Experience directing the work of CAD designers
  4. Experience with AFT Fathom and/or Caesar II software
  5. Client service aptitude and experience
  6. Experience working directly with clients
  7. Proven experience involving industrial equipment, pumping/piping systems, gas handling systems, HVAC, dust collection, plumbing, slurry/paste handling, and/or other relevant mechanical systems
  8. Demonstrated project or task management skills

Work Arrangement:

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position, allowing for a split between working from a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, offices.

Important Note:

Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
