This role involves monitoring imports and exports, processing freight invoices daily, and meeting regulatory agency requirements. You'll be responsible for HS classification codes, free trade agreements, tariff treatment, and customs compliance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and maintaining HS classification codes in our system
  • FOLLOWING UP on free trade agreements or CPTPP certificates with various points of origin or acquiring from the system
  • Determining tariff treatment based on documents and providing opinions to Assistant Managers or Senior team members for approval
  • Handling general inquiries professionally over the phone, in person, or via email
  • Supporting Canadian business units and providing documentation and information requirements to facilitate in/out movements
  • Maintaining and updating our customs dashboard to publish internally
  • Assisting with duty recoverable follow-up and reporting as required
  • Maintaining and updating standard operating procedures
  • Ensuring trade compliance governance with CBSA, B2 adjustments, and new trade programs
  • Liaising with internal and external teams on customs support such as documentation, clearance delays, HS code maintenance, and customs exams
  • Providing recommendations on process gaps, areas of risk, or opportunity and reporting to Assistant Managers
  • Assisting Assistant Managers or Senior team members with special customs projects as required
  • Downloading invoice data from our system and providing it to 3PL daily
  • Processing invoices from 3PL and other ad-hoc invoices received

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A post-secondary education from a recognized college or university
  • At least three years of experience in customs brokerage or customs compliance, including importation expertise, international incoterms, trade agreements, and global supply realization
  • Experience in logistics cost management, including invoice verification processes, tariff master creation, and maintenance
  • Customs compliance expertise, particularly with regard to HS classification, tariff treatment, and duty
  • Certified Customs Specialist certification is an asset
  • Logistics designations are beneficial
  • Intermediate MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) skills
  • Knowledge of Canadian importation law, customs management, tariff structures, risk/control management of spend across multiple logistics cost points, and data retrieval/maintenance
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills, professionalism, organization, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment
