NFS is a provincial service committed to providing nutritious, healthy, high-quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and customer experience.
Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, you will use strong customer service, teamwork, and organizational skills to:
- Prepare, handle, portion, and package food and beverages.
- Assemble trays in the kitchen.
- Provide patient meal delivery and pick up.
- Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment.
- Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines.
- Complete other food service duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy.
- Work under pressure in high-stress situations.
- Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments.
- Work as an effective, professional team member.
- Demonstrate a patient-first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies.
- Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.
Description:
As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include:
- Packaging and portioning food items.
- Preparing food according to set guidelines and menus.
- Serving meals to patients and customers.
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables, and serving areas.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies, and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Preferred Qualifications:
Customer service experience. Food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing "First in- First Out" procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. WHMIS training.
