About the Role

Algoma Steel is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our health and safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Corporate Health and Safety manual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement safety programs for employees
  • Provide safety guidance and expertise to a division of the organization
  • Lead working groups to ensure audit compliance and effective solutions
  • Conduct periodic audits and recommend corrective actions
  • Coordinate activities with suppliers, contractors, and customers to ensure employee health and safety
  • Monitor health risks and ensure good industrial hygiene practices
  • Develop and implement programs to meet accident prevention objectives
  • Provide training in health and safety to employees

Requirements

  • Degree in a related field (Sciences, Environmental, Occupational H&S) with additional training/education in Health & Safety and Industrial Hygiene
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CSRP) certification preferred
  • Experience with the OH&S Act, Ministry of Labour, and Ministry of the Environment
  • Experience delivering training and driving process improvement initiatives
  • Effective communication skills with government, employees, and senior management
