Tool and Die Maker

We are seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker to join our team at Magna Exteriors. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machine tools, and fabricating and repairing metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.
Responsibilities- Support shift with completing open action items.
- Production coverage, change overs, manufacturing spares, preventative maintenance, C.I.'s, and predictive maintenance.
- Carry out daily pre-start crane and toolroom inspection sheet.
- Maintain a clean and organized toolroom and adhere to 5S principles.
- Ensure clear communication of production-related issues are passed onto all shifts and outstanding work is prioritized to be continued.
- Maintain good communication with supervisors and team leaders through verbal discussions and email.
- Inspect and troubleshoot new tools and progressive dies.
- Operate toolroom equipment effectively and safely.
- Assist in the tooling process as assigned while meeting established customer requirements.
- Modify, repair, and troubleshoot progressive dies while working to very close tolerances from blueprints, sketches, and samples.
- Maintain documentation and preventative maintenance requirements of progressive dies.
- Manage daily priorities for attainment of customer satisfaction, while also meeting production schedule commitments to achieve business objectives.
- Perform assigned tasks within given timeframes and monitor/report progress to the Tool and Die Team Leader or designate.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Certificate of qualification – Tool and Die Maker.
- Good English (both written and verbal) communication skills.
- Must possess strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to determine root cause and recommend countermeasures.
- Knowledge of Progressive Die design/Function.
- Must be a self-starter, able to work with minimum supervision on large Progressive Dies, Auto Transfer Dies, Hand Transfer Dies, Cut off Dies, and Benders.
- Ability to machine components to tight tolerances and high surface finish.
- Read and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Must be available to work rotating shifts and overtime when required.
- Valid Crane Operator license.
- Knowledge of WHMIS/GHS.
- Five years related experience and/or training in an automotive production environment.
- Mould Maker Certificate of qualification.
- Valid forklift license.
- Knowledge of CNC equipment and programming.
- Basic understanding of the computer.
- Ability to program and operate sink/wire EDM.
- Familiar with CAD Modeling (Mastercam, SolidWorks, ESPRIT, Inventor).
- TIG welding experience.
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
