Job Summary

The University Health Network is seeking a skilled Physiotherapist to join our General Internal Medicine team. As a Physiotherapist, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life of patients by planning and implementing individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning and cardio-respiratory health, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather patient information, including observing and interviewing the patient and essential care partners, reviewing and interpreting pertinent patient documentation and health records, attending and participating in rounds, clinics, and case management meetings, and actively collaborating with interprofessional team members.
  • Conduct initial screening and both formal and informal assessment protocols to assess patients' physical, functional, psychosocial, perceptual, and cognitive status.
  • Analyze all collected data to develop a clinical impression, formulate a treatment plan, and consultation recommendations.
  • Communicate the results of the assessment/clinical impression to the patient, essential care partners, and healthcare team, and if the results of the assessment indicate, then communicate a diagnosis identifying a disease, physical disorder, or dysfunction as the cause of the patient's symptoms as per the controlled act of communicating a diagnosis in the RHPA.
  • Implement modifications and shifts in individualized treatment programs in order to reflect the patient's changing needs, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in the education of students/learners, hospital staff, and the community, as well as maintaining excellence in the provision of physiotherapy services through ongoing professional development.
  • Lead and/or participate in research studies related to physiotherapy.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality indicators as per the Quality Programs of Allied Health, the Clinical Unit, or Corporate Program of the University Health Network.
  • Critically appraise, choose, and implement outcome measures to assess the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Science (Physiotherapy) or recognized equivalent based on Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association preferred.
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of critical care, acute surgical, and general medicine patients required.
  • Minimum One (1) year related experience.
  • Oxygen titration and suctioning experience and rostering of skills.
  • Complies with the legislation outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act, (1991) and the Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
  • Recognizes and acts within the scope and limitations of the physiotherapist role.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
