Job Summary

The Department Site Lead Pathology is a key leadership position within the Pathology department at NL Health Services. This role requires a physician with strong leadership skills and experience in managing medical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Department Chief to develop and implement plans for physician resources, space, supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Assist the Department Chief in the appointment, reappointment, privileging, remediation, and discipline processes.
  • Develop and maintain a physician resource plan.
  • Assist in physician recruitment, orientation, and retention within the department.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, and utilization activities within the department.
  • Participate in departmental multidisciplinary quality improvement management programs.
  • Assist the Department Chief in addressing matters related to professional and ethical conduct, continuing professional development, and teaching and research.
  • Assist the Department Chief with overall management of the department, including acting as Chief during short-term absences and call coverage schedules.
Requirements
  • Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Eligibility for Royal College or College of Family Physicians certification is an asset.
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services.
  • Formal physician leadership training and/or equivalent experience.
  • Complete education in quality and patient safety as required.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
