Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Game Design Director to lead the vision and design of enemy characters and related game systems to create engaging combat experiences. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience developing video games, design credits on at least one title where they were responsible for major parts of the design of enemy AI, combat systems, or bosses, and experience working hands-on with a game engine to implement their designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the vision and design of enemy characters and related game systems to create engaging combat experiences.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and review AI work.
  • Manage a small number of other AI designers.
  • Work with other designers to ensure all parts of the combat experience support one another and the overall game loop.
  • Communicate the design to the team through multiple channels, including written design documents.
  • Prototype, implement, and maintain features and content using Unreal Engine 5.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, including art, animation, programming, and level design, to develop features and ensure a top-tier player experience.
  • Review the game against the design goals and identify issues and opportunities to improve the player experience.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback from multiple sources to improve features.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience developing video games.
  • Design credits on at least one title where you were responsible for major parts of the design of enemy AI, combat systems, or bosses.
  • Experience working hands-on with a game engine to implement your designs.
  • Knowledge of recent titles and trends in action games and the ability to apply insights from them.
  • Experience leading or managing other people a plus.
