Job Summary
Nexgen HR Services is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team. As an Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in a classroom setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing educational programs for students with special needs.
- Provide individualized support to students, promoting inclusion and socialization.
- Monitor and record student progress, contributing to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Assist with classroom management, strategies, and activities to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education resource teachers, and other support staff to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Participate in meetings with representatives of other agencies to share information about students and promote collaboration.
- Support students on field trips and provide assistance with daily tasks and activities.
- Help students enhance their self-esteem and promote confidence and independence.
- Assist with updating and maintaining student records and progress according to school and Ministry of Education policies and regulations.
Requirements
- A Grade 12 Diploma and a minimum of a 10-month college/certificate program in teaching assistance, educational assistance, or another social science.
- At least 1 year of experience in a related field.
- A valid first-aid certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Related experience working with children/youth.
- Previous classroom experience is essential. Must demonstrate experience in a First Nation school setting.
- Must have general knowledge of the educational system, learning techniques, socialization processes, attitudes, values, aspirations, and expectations of the Lax Kw'alaams Band.
- Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability. Strong communication skills.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently; must be able to schedule and prioritize work.
- Able to deal with people's sensitivity tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to embodying a personal addiction-free lifestyle.
- The successful candidate will be asked to provide a current Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening and a valid driver's license as a condition of employment.
