Job Title: System Controller

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Controller to join our team at The MEARIE Group. As a System Controller, you will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and authorizing the operation of our electrical distribution systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable power delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and authorize the safe and reliable operation of our distribution system under normal and emergency conditions on a 24/7 basis.
  • Monitor and control all activities on the distribution system, prioritizing and reporting deficiencies as required.
  • Coordinate activities and outages on transformer stations, transmission lines, and distribution equipment with Hydro One/IESO and other departments to ensure safe, economic, and efficient work.
  • Manage outages using the Outage Management System for real-time statistical reporting and data analysis.
  • Communicate with management and the public to provide status updates and anticipated restoration times.
  • Update GIS records, operating diagrams, and other databases to reflect real-time distribution system configuration.
  • Perform analytical problem-solving, troubleshooting, and contingency planning of the distribution system.
  • Respond to emergencies as defined in the Alectra Electrical Emergency Preparedness Plan (EEPP).
Requirements:
  • OACETT certification as a C. Tech or C.E.T.
  • 3-Year College Diploma in an electrical discipline or equivalent.
  • MEARIE Certificate as a Journeyperson Municipal Electrical Operator or eligible to obtain in 12 months.
  • Certification in the IHSA Utility Work Protection Code.
  • Valid class G driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 4 years of related electrical operating experience.
  • Proficient in the use of SCADA systems, Outage Management Systems (OMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and personal computer applications including Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and utilize technical prints and schematics.
