About This Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Counsellor for Children's Day Programs, where you will be responsible for creating a safe and engaging environment for children participating in our day camps. Your primary focus will be on providing proactive supervision, facilitating daily activities, and collaborating with other staff members.

We are seeking candidates who possess strong communication and teamwork skills, with a passion for working with children. Previous experience in day camp settings or related fields is preferred. Additionally, we require applicants to have a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search within 12 months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creating a fun, safe, and healthy environment for children participating in our day camps.
  • Providing proactive supervision and facilitating daily activities, ensuring a positive experience for all campers.
  • Collaborating with other staff members, including the Day Camp Coordinator, Supervisor, and Specialty Camp Instructors, to achieve shared goals.
  • Planning and implementing all aspects of the daily schedule, adhering to provided curriculum guidelines.
  • Safety supervision in the pool area, engaging in pool activities with campers, and overseeing weekly field trips off-site.
  • Demonstrating and role-modelling positive behavior when interacting with staff, campers, and members.
  • Familiarity with YMCA Calgary policies and procedures, along with the ability to provide first aid when required.
  • Greeting parents/guardians and campers upon arrival and departure, offering assistance and daily updates as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Aged 16 or older.
  • Interest in working with children.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Previous day camp or related experience preferred.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification, obtained within the last 12 months from an approved provider.
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search within 12 months.
  • Three professional references.
