Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and education to patients with a variety of respiratory illnesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients to identify care needs and consult with referring physicians to develop patient care plans.
  • Provide direct patient care, including pulmonary function tests, methacholine challenge tests, and exercise oximeter studies.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of respiratory services within an assigned area.
  • Monitor pulmonary function and other respiratory therapy equipment to ensure calibration and quality control checks are performed.
  • Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation support of patients, including routine care and monitoring of artificial airways.
  • Maintain patient statistics, records, progress reports, minutes of meetings, correspondence, and evaluation data.
  • Provide orientation and in-services sessions for new department staff on pulmonary function equipment and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the education and supervision of patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals on all types of respiratory illnesses.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Two years' recent related clinical experience in an acute care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) credentialing exam and eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
  • Current CPR Level 'C' or equivalent and Neonatal Program (NRP) certification.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of respiratory therapy and respiratory diseases as it relates to the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to teach students, patients, and their families on an individual and/or group basis.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate and maintain related respiratory equipment.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently.
