Job Title: Assistant Deputy Chief

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Deputy Chief to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the leadership and management of resources to deliver program services within approved budget, operating policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee daily operations in fire operations, emergency medical services, emergency 9-1-1 communications, training, and supporting other services within Regional Emergency Services.
  • Develop and implement quality, innovative, and practical approaches to Integrated Emergency Services operational services and department strategic plans.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of guidelines and procedures relative to emergency operations.
  • Manage and coordinate second-level emergency response support.
Requirements:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work under own initiative and make sound decisions, sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to empower people, and other leadership qualities which include the ability to collaborate and work respectfully with all staff.
  • Ability to navigate through situations involving rapid change, shifting priorities, and/or simultaneous demands.
  • Highly developed analytical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, political awareness, and sensitivity.
Education and Experience:
  • Diploma in Business Administration or another related program.
  • Emergency Medical Service (EMS) certification is an asset.
  • Basic Emergency Management and Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, or 300 certification is an asset.
  • Five (5) years of experience in an operational emergency services role with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a leader.
Additional Requirements:
  • Submission of a Criminal Record Check.
  • A valid Class Five (5) Alberta Operator's license is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
  • This position is primarily based out of an office environment, however the incumbent will be required to travel throughout the region.
