Job Description for Behavioural Support Specialist:



The ideal candidate for this role will play a pivotal part in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.



Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement individualized behaviour management strategies to support students' emotional and behavioural well-being.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and school support teams to develop and implement personalized learning plans.
  • Provide academic support and assistance with class assignments and activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes students' social-emotional growth and self-confidence.


Required Qualifications


  • Experience and training in behaviour management systems, preferably in an educational or youth-focused setting.
  • Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting children and adolescents.
  • Ability to work effectively one-on-one with students, adapting strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students or communities is considered an asset.

Eligibility

Qualified regular part-time employees are eligible to increase their status and apply to part-time term vacancies if it does not interfere with their regular assignment, subject to certain conditions.



Salary and Benefits

If a term assignment is less than the school year, the hourly rate is $23.45 plus 4% vacation pay and eligibility for benefits. If the term assignment is for the full school year, the hourly rate is $24.39 and enrollment in the Board's term benefit plans is available.
