About the Role

Alberta Innovates is seeking a seasoned professional to lead our data management efforts as a Director, Data and Analytics. This strategic role will drive the development and implementation of data-driven solutions to support business decision-making and drive organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and communicate a comprehensive data strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives
  • Lead the implementation and operation of data management technologies, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility
  • Drive organizational change towards a data-driven culture by promoting awareness and adoption of data and analytics capabilities
  • Provide leadership to the data organization, overseeing governance, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to translate business needs into data strategies and initiatives
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in progressively responsible roles within data management, analytics, corporate reporting, business intelligence, or related fields
  • 5+ years of experience in leadership positions, with demonstrated leadership in areas such as data analysis, business intelligence, data engineering, or data governance
  • Proven record of successfully leading and developing technical teams, managing complex projects, and delivering impactful business outcomes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Data-related certification (e.g. Certified Data Professional)
  • Combination of private and public sector experience
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau)
