Critical Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Critical Care Specialist to join our team of respiratory therapists at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will be responsible for the initiation and management of mechanical ventilation and advanced airway management in all areas of the institution.
You will deliver and manage the administration of oxygen and other compressed gases, aerosolized medications, and high humidity therapies. Your expertise in pulmonary diagnostic testing will enable you to perform and interpret related assessments, contributing to the achievement of physician goals for patients' cardiorespiratory status.
In addition to your technical skills, you will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care and airway management for patients.
Your ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize tasks effectively will be essential in this role.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation and advanced airway management
- Deliver and manage oxygen and compressed gas therapy
- Administer aerosolized medications and high humidity therapies
- Perform and interpret pulmonary diagnostic testing
To succeed in this role, you should possess a graduate degree from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and maintain registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists. Certification in CPR at NRP and ACLS levels is also required.
You must be able to travel to other sites as needed and demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Adaptability and flexibility are essential in this fast-paced environment.
Able to work independently and as part of a team, you should possess effective planning, organizing, and supervising abilities. Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.
Hours and CompensationThis is a long-assignment, full-time position requiring 75 hours bi-weekly. The salary range is $32.43 - $40.66 per hour, with opportunities for benefits, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
