About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Trader to join our team at TransAlta Corporation, reporting directly to the Manager of Trading and Mid-Marketing. This role is critical to the success and growth of the East Term desk, where the focus is on generating and executing speculative trading strategies while managing risk.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing speculative power, gas, and options strategies in both cash and term markets, with a primary focus on the upcoming 18-month horizon.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement speculative trading strategies in power, gas, and options markets
  2. Manage risk and achieve an annual profit and loss target of $2-$5 million
  3. Conduct analysis for new business lines and structured transactions
  4. Conduct fundamental research and generate trade ideas in power and gas markets
  5. Provide backup support for Manager as needed
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of Eastern ISO markets, power generation fundamentals, fuels, FTRs/congestion, and a proven ability to articulate strategy, risk assessment, and deal execution to colleagues and leadership.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or Mathematics, and over 5 years of pertinent market and trading experience.
