We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Tailings Process Expert to join our team at Hatch in Mississauga, ON, Canada. This is an exceptional chance to leverage your expertise in tailings management and process engineering to drive innovation and excellence in the mining industry.

About the Role

This senior-level position involves providing expert advice on tailings dewatering processes, developing integrated solutions for clients in the North American market, and mentoring junior staff to foster a culture of continuous learning and growth. You will work closely with our existing core team to develop innovative tailings management practices and expand our capabilities in tailings and mine waste management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with tailings management practice group and Hatch process teams to deliver integrated tailings solutions in the North American market;
  • Support proposal preparation and manage all levels of tasks for scoping to basic engineering studies in tailings projects;
  • Select and implement cost-effective tailings dewatering technologies for surface disposal and underground backfill utilization;
  • Mentor junior staff and promote knowledge sharing and professional development;
  • Review technical designs prepared by junior/intermediate engineers;
Requirements and Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in tailings management, processing, and mine waste sector;
  • Possess post-graduate degree in mineral processing engineering, metallurgy, or mechanical engineering;
  • Able to guide and prepare tailings dewatering testing specifications and integrate lab results into designs;
  • Proven experience in creating process equipment layouts, lists, and specifications using AutoCAD;
  • Develop process design criteria, mass balances, and process flowsheets for dewatering, backfilling, and synergy between underground and surface disposal;
  • Familiarity with tailings filters, thickeners, pipe and pump sizing, agitation processes, hydrocycloning, selection, adjusting, and simulations, dewatering screens, and other available technologies;
  • Proficient in preparing and reviewing P&IDs, mechanical equipment lists, MTOs, CAPX, and OPEX;
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills; preferred bilingual proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese;
  • Skills to work well in a team with a strong client focus;
  • Highly proficient in MS Office suite of tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project;
  • Knowledge of latest worldwide developments in tailings management and Global Tailings Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM);
  • Ability to travel internationally for business within North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico) to support regional operations;
  • Valid passport and driver's license from a Canadian province.
