Lead Backend Software Engineer – Labs Legal Tech

Are you a seasoned Backend Software Engineer looking to take on a leadership role in a dynamic team? Thomson Reuters has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Backend Software Engineer to join our Labs Legal Tech team.

About the Role:

In this position, you will lead all phases of application development, including ideation, design, implementation, deployment, maintenance, and support of our backend applications. You will play a key role in the complete software development lifecycle, collaborating with product managers, scientists, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software products.

Responsibilities:

  • Ideate, design, implement, deploy, maintain, and support a set of related backend applications responsible for processing millions of legal documents.
  • Lead initiatives for improving processes to achieve better outcomes across the team.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to get things done with minimal supervision.
  • Support client applications and users of the backend applications you work on.

About You:

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 7+ years of software development, hosting, and maintenance experience in a Rust-based environment.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing distributed systems using cloud services.
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining applications to Azure cloud services.
  • Hands-on experience with Rust and SQL/Relational Databases.
  • Prior experience leading other engineers (can be formal or informal engineering leadership).
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, unit testing, quality control practices, and incident management.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with other languages, technologies, and cloud providers.
  • Familiarity with the legal industry is a plus.
