Senior Communications Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Communications Specialist to join our team at Medavie Blue Cross. As a key member of our External Communications team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategic communications plans to support our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert advice and support to business partners on external communication strategies and tactics to drive business results.
- Develop and execute external communications materials, including key messages, news releases, speaking remarks, presentations, and op-eds, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as the primary media point of contact for Medavie Blue Cross in Quebec, responding to media inquiries and interviews in a timely and professional manner.
- Build and maintain relationships with media representatives, identifying emerging opportunities and challenges that require proactive communication.
- Monitor key regional and national news media to stay informed about issues that may impact our organization's operations and reputation.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to generate an ongoing stream of earned media coverage.
- Support the marketing team in their communications efforts.
- Provide communications support for special projects and ad hoc initiatives as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in corporate communications, with a focus on external communications and media relations.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is required to meet the needs of our English-speaking clientele.
- Exceptional written communication skills, including editing, proofreading, and attention to detail.
- A strong ability to advise senior leaders and create approaches that address business demands and needs.
- Ability to deal with highly confidential and sensitive subjects in a professional manner.
- Solid time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and produce materials to meet tight deadlines.
- Team player with a focus on supporting colleagues, trying new approaches, and delivering results.
- Strong interpersonal, project management, and relationship-building skills with an ability to work with multi-stakeholder teams in a fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter and problem-solver who works independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team.
- Understanding of media engagement strategies, the healthcare and insurance industry, and advanced skills with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
