Professional Standards Specialist

The Professional Standards Specialist is a key member of the Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency team, responsible for developing, facilitating, and monitoring training programs for Fire Prevention staff. This role requires a strong understanding of fire safety regulations, building codes, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver training programs for Fire Prevention personnel, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct research and stay up-to-date with codes, standards, and industry best practices related to fire prevention and safety.
- Review and recommend updates to policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Represent Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency on various committees and associations, promoting best practices in fire safety and prevention.
- Maintain accurate records of training activities, including logs and reports.
- Develop and manage budgets for training programs, ensuring effective use of resources.
- Coordinate training locations, instructors, and equipment to ensure successful delivery of training programs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years' experience in fire safety administration, building code enforcement, or related field.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license.
- Considerable experience inspecting complex buildings, such as high-rise or industrial facilities.
- Certificate or degree in Adult Education or eLearning instructional design an asset.
- Detailed knowledge of the Nova Scotia Building and Fire Codes, Fire Safety Act, and HRM By-laws.
- Sound knowledge of common law principles and precedents related to fire safety and prevention.
- Knowledge of business-related software and technology, including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.

Permanent, Full-time position with regular hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
SalaryNon-Union Level 7, $82,080-$106,220 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
