Electrical Instrumentation and Automation Specialist Role:

The Electrical Instrumentation and Automation Specialist will oversee all electrical and instrumentation aspects of engineering related to dry vacuum pump and liquid ring pump/compressor systems. This role ensures all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, budget and schedule are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret electrical and instrumentation specifications to ensure global standards and safety codes are adhered to.
  • Direct designers and technicians from conceptual design through production and testing.
  • Assist in the development of electrical schematics, BOMs, control panel drawings, junction boxes and ladder logic diagrams.
  • Review and approve electrical designs including drawings and BOMs.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines and departments.
  • Assist in developing control narratives or sequences of operations.
  • Review quotations and proposals from vendors.
  • Provide input for electrical, instrumentation, and controls sections of IOM manuals for end users.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial electrical design, preferably in chemical and oil & gas sectors.
  • Instrumentation including control valves, flow meters, and transmitters.
  • Sound knowledge of instrumentation, electrical, and controls.
  • Demonstrated design experience with Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Versed on relevant national and international standards for electrical, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, CSA, FM, UL, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • E-Plan, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, fieldbus topology, and experience with PLC/HMI programming software.

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Experience with rotating equipment and pumping systems.
  • P.Eng. (or eligible in Ontario).
  • Knowledge of process piping systems and equipment including vacuum pumps, liquid pumps, motors, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
