Job Description

The Tritan Group is collaborating with a renowned residential construction and property development firm in Hamilton, specializing in high-end luxury and custom homes. As a Cost Estimator, you will be responsible for creating accurate and timely full-cost estimates and scopes of work for projects, encompassing materials, sub-trade costs, and labor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and coordinate the preparation of comprehensive cost estimates on conceptual, design-build, or general tender work.
  • Create detailed scopes of work as outlined by the Design Manager to reflect the work being carried out for the project.
  • Develop materials, labor, and sub-trade cost estimations necessary to successfully execute a construction project according to proposals, plans, and specifications.
  • Maintain an updated list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
  • Generate estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work.
  • Present estimates and conduct review meetings with the Design Manager.
  • Support other department personnel as needed, which may include preparing estimates for other disciplines.
  • Assess design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Verify all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal proposal.
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required.
  • Perform additional assignments per the supervisor's direction.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in cost estimation.
  • Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints, and as-builds.
  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills to create material, job cost reports, and labor estimates.
  • Ability to utilize cost-estimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job to allow for pricing.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with trades and suppliers.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering is an asset.
Estimated Salary

$85,000 - $115,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
