About the Role
VIA Rail Canada Inc., Canada's national passenger rail service, is seeking skilled Railway Car Technicians to work at its Vancouver Maintenance Center. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring our passenger cars operate at peak capacity year-round.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular maintenance and heavy repairs on our national fleet of passenger cars.
- Service and maintain interior and exterior components, including seats, toilets, tables, sinks, blinds, panels, piping, windows, and brake rigging.
- Train and develop specialized skills to tackle major components such as wheelsets, couplers, springs, and more.
Work Environment
The position is permanent, with a guaranteed 40-hour workweek. Shifts may vary, including day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday work. Overtime is available, and candidates must be available to work any day of the week during peak season.
What We Offer
- Hourly salary: $35.22 - $42.49/hour, based on experience.
- Evening shift differential: $1.50/hour.
- Night shift differential: $2.00/hour.
- Red Seal differential: $1.00/hour.
- Full benefits, including dental, medical, pension plan, ride pass, and 5 personal days + vacations.
- Uniforms, tools, PPE, free parking, shower/personal change room, and indoor lunch room.
Requirements
- Experience as a millwright, carpenter, plumber, welder, fabricator, or automotive technician.
- Red Seal certification is ideal, but apprentices are also welcome to apply.
- Journeyman status, experience in machinery maintenance, and experience assembling, mounting, or finishing transportation equipment are nice-to-haves.
