Job Description

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing major projects assigned to them, planning, directing, organizing, coordinating, and controlling the execution of one or more construction projects simultaneously.

This role requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients, staff, subcontractors, consultants, and workers.

  • Review tender documents, estimate to determine the scope of work, including scheduling and project planning;
  • Responsible for having a thorough understanding of tender documents, drawings, specifications, and addendums to assist the Site Superintendent in achieving project success;
  • Provide leadership and establish effective relationships with clients, staff, subcontractors, consultants, and workers;
  • Negotiate agreements with subcontractors, sign letters of intent after discussion with the vice president, verify agreements with subcontractors, and sign them (for subcontracts valued at less than $1 million);
  • In collaboration with project managers and superintendents, ensure that the work carried out meets standards and objectives set for quality, safety, relations, quantity, deadlines, and costs, and take corrective action when required;
  • Provide input to help resolve problems related to a specific concern;
  • Monthly verification and discussion with project managers of all cost controls under their supervision and reporting to the Operations Director;
  • Assignment of staff to work sites in accordance with human resources department policies (salaries must be approved by the human resources director) and monitor productivity and operating costs;
  • Ensure customer satisfaction with a focus on safety, costs, schedule, and quality of work;
  • Ensure compliance with EBC's health and safety estimate and site-specific H&S programs for each project;
  • Ensure compliance with the company's QA/QC system in accordance with the appropriate ISO standard;
  • Participate in official inquiries by government officials according to established rules and provide projects with guidance to comply with orders;
  • Follow up on ISO procedures with operational staff. Responsible for site kickoff meetings, periodic reviews, postmortems, and participation in planning reviews;
  • Discussion of legal or litigation issues with the Operations Director and VP and ensuring proper documentation;
  • Manage commercial and project control matters of major projects, including change management, procurement, prime contract management, cost control, earned value management, scheduling, and risk management;
  • Develop and enforce commercial/project controls policies, processes, and procedures;
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice and reports to executives and project managers;
  • Lead all claims and change management with respect to clients and subcontractors;
  • Performing all other tasks required for the execution of their mandate;
  • Evaluate personnel under their responsibility according to company policies.
Requirements

This role requires a University Degree/Technology Diploma in Engineering or a combination of education and industry experience. A minimum of 10 years' experience in the construction industry is preferred.

Previous work experience in Civil Engineering Construction, including bridges, infrastructure, tunneling, water/sewer, and/or heavy civil construction is required.

A proven track record of project success and team leadership is essential.

Good knowledge of geology and geotechnical is necessary.

Strong experience delivering large-scale projects within a partnership environment is required.

Strong experience with alternative delivery mode projects (Design Build, P3) is also necessary.

Advanced skills in management, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving are required.

Good computer skills and previous experience with scheduling software are also necessary.

Bilingualism (an asset) but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.

Salary

$120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
