A Day in the Life of a Mechanic

As a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician at GFL Environmental, you will spend most of your day performing routine maintenance tasks, repairing heavy duty equipment, and troubleshooting mechanical issues. You will work independently and as part of a team to ensure the efficient operation of our fleet.

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on heavy duty equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
  • Repair and maintain heavy duty equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues with heavy duty equipment, including diagnosing problems and implementing repairs
  • Work with other technicians to ensure the efficient operation of our fleet
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure that all work is completed safely and efficiently

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired
  • 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards
  • Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records
  • Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job
  • Exert physical effort including pushing, pulling, bending and lifting items up to 100 lbs.
  • Use fine motor coordination with arm, hand, finger and leg dexterity
  • Ability to kneel, crawl and climb
