Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Woodlands Superintendent to join our team at Interfor. As a key member of our forest operations team, you will be responsible for planning and supervising road construction, road maintenance, harvesting, and log hauling operations in various locations across Northeast Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Woodlands Managers in achieving their objectives and contribute to the development of short- and long-term operational plans.
  • Mentor and lead by example a younger team of Woodlands Supervisors, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of forest operations.
  • Coordinate and support forest operations, including road building, road maintenance, harvesting, and log hauling, ensuring that all activities are carried out safely, legally, and efficiently.
  • Prepare and maintain operational plans, ensuring full utilization of the forest resource to the benefit of the Company.
  • Prepare blocks for harvest, including road and boundary layout, pre-work approval, and mapping, and schedule work with respective contractors.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) on day-to-day operational issues.
  • Communicate and report weekly production levels and targets to stakeholders.
  • Prepare incident investigations and follow up on incident report recommendations.
  • Carry out Environmental and Safety inspections and develop and follow up on action plans resulting from those inspections.
  • Support the Log Quality Program, including providing measured data for quality control monitoring and contractor follow-up.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience in harvesting and road construction-related operations.
  • Education in forestry or forest management, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license.
  • Familiar with forest harvest systems and road construction techniques, including bridge construction.
  • Working knowledge of forestry regulations (Crown Forest Sustainability Act) and OH&S Act & Regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Bilingual is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and problem solve.
  • Commitment to high safety and environmental standards.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Ability to work for extended periods outdoors, in a forested environment, and in various weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to work away from home for days at a time when needed.
  • Ability to meet changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
