Woodlands Superintendent Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Woodlands Superintendent to join our team in Timmins, Ontario. As a key member of our forest operations team, you will be responsible for planning and supervising road construction, road maintenance, harvesting, and log hauling operations across Northeast Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Woodlands Managers in achieving their objectives.
  • Mentor and lead a team of Woodlands Supervisors, providing guidance and expertise in forest operations.
  • Coordinate and support forest operations, including road building, road maintenance, harvesting, and log hauling.
  • Ensure operations are carried out safely, legally, and efficiently, adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain short- and long-term operational plans, ensuring full utilization of the forest resource.
  • Liaise with the MNRF on day-to-day operational issues.
  • Communicate and report weekly production levels and targets.
  • Prepare incident investigations and follow up on incident report recommendations.
  • Carry out Environmental and Safety inspections and develop and follow up on action plans.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years' experience in harvesting and road construction-related operations.
  • Education in forestry or forest management, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license.
  • Familiar with forest harvest systems and road construction techniques, including bridge construction.
  • Working knowledge of forestry regulations (Crown Forest Sustainability Act) and OH&S Act & Regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Bilingual is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and problem solve.
  • Commitment to high safety and environmental standards.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Ability to work for extended periods outdoors, in a forested environment, and in various weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to work away from home for days at a time when needed.
  • Ability to meet changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
