The Role
Douglas College is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Peer Tutor to support students in achieving academic success. As a Peer Tutor, you will work closely with students to develop effective learning strategies, improve their understanding of course content, and enhance their overall academic performance.
Responsibilities
- Work with students to identify areas of improvement and develop personalized learning plans.
- Provide one-on-one support and guidance to students, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their academic goals.
- Engage in continuous professional development and training to stay up-to-date with best practices in academic support.
- Collaborate with instructors and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and supportive learning environment.
- Participate in workshops and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements
- Have a strong academic record, with a minimum of a "B" average in the subject area you will be tutoring.
- Be able to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate changing student needs.
Eligibility Criteria
- Domestic students must be enrolled in a minimum of one 3-credit course at Douglas College throughout the work term.
- International students must be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College or have a valid Study Permit with the notation "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W)."
