Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced General Counsel to join our leadership team at Canada Bread - Bimbo. As a key advisor to our President and Executive Team, you will play a critical role in shaping our business strategy and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of managing complex litigation, providing strategic legal advice, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. They will also possess excellent business acumen, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Litigation Management: Manage complex litigation, including advising on strategy, tactics, and pleadings, and collaborating with external counsel as needed.
  • Legal Advice: Provide sound legal advice to the Executive Team and cross-functional teams, balancing compliance, business needs, and long-term strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Marketing, Sales, Distribution, Finance, Real Estate, Supply Chain, R+D, Procurement, and Treasury teams to address their legal needs.
  • External Counsel Management: Manage relationships with external counsel, scope of work, files, and fees.
  • Executive Team Member: Actively engage as a member of the Executive Team, contributing to strategic decision-making and driving business outcomes.
Requirements:
  • General Counsel Experience: Minimum six years of experience in a top-tier law firm or large in-house legal department.
  • Broad Legal Knowledge: Strong expertise in corporate governance and regulatory compliance, with experience in litigation.
  • Business Acumen: Excellent understanding of how businesses operate and ability to develop legal strategies that drive business outcomes.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to anticipate legal issues, estimate risks, and make recommendations on mitigation strategies.
  • Professional Ethics: High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
  • Judgment and Analytical Skills: Excellent judgment and analytical skills, with ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
