Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Water/Utilities team as a Commercial Lead. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial, contractual, and operational success of complex infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contract management, negotiation, and risk assessment. They will work collaboratively with commercial, project, and management teams to protect the business from commercial risk and ensure successful project delivery.

  • Contract Management: Preparation, review, and negotiation of subcontracts and supply agreements.
  • Risk Management: Identifying, evaluating, and mitigating head contract and subcontract commercial and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Negotiation: Managing high-level negotiations with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to achieve commercial and project outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining relationships with internal teams, clients, and key stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership: Providing commercial advice and mentoring to project managers and junior commercial team members.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing commercial strategies within complex projects.
  • Managing high-level negotiations with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risks.
  • Providing commercial advice and mentoring to project managers and junior commercial team members.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Law, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Professional legal qualifications (LLB, JD) highly desirable.
  • 7+ years of experience in a commercial management, legal or contract management role.
  • Exposure to the construction, infrastructure, or engineering industries preferred but not essential.
  • Strong understanding and application of contract law.
  • Exceptional communication and drafting skills.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
