About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Dietary Aide / Cook to join our culinary team at Tri-Town Home, located in Haileybury, Ontario. This part-time position will involve assisting with plating and serving meals, cleaning serving areas, and maintaining equipment while following established policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences, observing time limits for meal serving and maintaining food at proper serving temperature.
2. Assists Cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follows basic instructions in preparing simple foods like breakfast items, desserts, and garnishes.
3. Cleans plates and trays, loads, and operates the dishwasher, and cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils according to procedure.
4. Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers, and adheres to established departmental policies regarding quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.
5. Assembles nourishment carts, stocks unit kitchenettes, and participates in facility meetings as assigned, attending in-service education programs.
6. Possesses other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
7. Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation, prepares food and nourishments according to prescribed diets.
8. Maintains required records and monitors quality and quantity of food, directing Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and serving activities at mealtimes.
9. Takes responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Dietary Manager.

Requirements

• Able to successfully complete and/or enroll in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act within three years of hire date.
• Holds a current Food Handler's Certificate.
• Previous experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) home setting.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Can read, write, and understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Capable of working safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
• Able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
• Available for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience.
