The successful candidate will possess current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. They will also have strong assessment and intervention skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, this role provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to patients in an acute medical unit or within an outpatient intravenous (IV) setting and/or in a residential setting or home environment.

  • Perform peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertions to establish and/or maintain intravenous therapy, and provide PICC maintenance and cares for PIC lines;
  • Assess patients receiving IV therapy, collect information from various sources, and make a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition, determining whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention;
  • Perform IV therapy care and related duties, such as inserting and maintaining IV lines, administering antibiotics/medications ordered by the physician, and teaching patients about IV care and self-management;
  • Collaborate with patients and their families/caregivers in developing the care plan and encouraging family participation;
  • Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients, and coordinate nursing care for the patient;
  • Collaborate with members of the interprofessional care team in the identification and resolution of issues;
  • Teach patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance;
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, and referrals according to practice standards;
  • Participate on nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned;
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities;
  • Act as a preceptor or mentor to assigned new nursing staff and students.
