Service Manager Job Description

Brandt Truck & Trailer is seeking a Service Manager for our Grande Prairie location. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the inspection and pre-delivery of all new and used equipment, including managing the service department and day-to-day activities of foremen, leadhands, service writers, and shop, field, and resident mechanics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage service workflow and ensure adherence to established standards
  • Develop and manage the Service Department budget to meet financial and operational goals
  • Prepare quotes for customer work orders and open/close work orders
  • Inspect and operate customer equipment to resolve concerns and diagnose issues
  • Monitor service revenue and expenses monthly
  • Ensure work is performed according to established safety and industry standards
  • Review employee performance against goals on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain a high-performance Service team through hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, and performance management
Requirements:
  • Effective communication and professionalism with customers, employees, and branch personnel
  • Self-motivation in learning and applying new knowledge and skills, with a willingness to share knowledge with others
  • Ability to travel to customer worksites and operate around heavy equipment
  • Proficiency in using work-related desktop applications and web-based productivity applications
  • Confidence, critical thinking, knowledge, and technical skills to assess and solve customer, business, and personnel problems effectively and efficiently
  • A recent driver's abstract will be required
Experience:
  • 5-7 years' progressive experience in service, management, and business, including journeyperson heavy duty mechanic and management/supervisory experience in the heavy duty equipment industry
  • Solid foundation of knowledge and skill in the operation of a heavy duty equipment dealership
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, and achieve work-related objectives and goals
  • Strong customer service orientation and sound judgment when dealing with customers
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, employees, and branch personnel
