Job Title: 3rd Year Apprentice Welder

At Johnson Controls, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated 3rd Year Apprentice Welder to join our team. As an Apprentice Welder, you will be responsible for the fabrication of custom prototypes from supplied drawings, fabrication of custom jigs and fixtures to produce production parts that meet customer specifications, as well as the fabrication of metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a high-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read, interpret, and review blueprints or welding process specifications to ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in the environment intended for use.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using various welding processes, including MIG, ARC, and TIG welding.
  • Operate brazing, soldering, and manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • Operate metal shaping machines, such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening and bending machines.
  • Repair parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
  • Conduct technical inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
  • Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues.
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques.
Requirements:
  • Registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school.
  • Working towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets.
  • Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified in all positions.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of journeyman electricians, as part of a team, and independently in a busy environment.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions:
  • Year-round work (not seasonal)
  • In-town work
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
  • Always adhere to safety policies (wear protective equipment).
  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Indoor work only
