Job Summary
The Apprentice Welder is a key member of our production team, responsible for the fabrication of custom prototypes and production parts that meet customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and review blueprints or welding process specifications to ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in the intended environment.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using various welding processes, including MIG, ARC, and TIG.
- Operate brazing, soldering, and manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
- Repair parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
- Conduct technical inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
- Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues.
- Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques.
Requirements
- Registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school.
- Working towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets.
- Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified in all positions.
- Ability to work under the supervision of journeyman electricians, as part of a team, and independently in a busy environment.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions
- Year-round work (not seasonal)
- In-town work
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
- Always adhere to safety policies (wear protective equipment).
- Overtime as required.
- Hazards associated with the trade.
- Indoor work only
