De Beers Group is seeking an Explosive Operations Specialist to join the Mining department at our Gahcho Kué Mine Site in the Northwest Territories.

Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, based on experience.

About the Role:

The Explosive Operations Specialist will be responsible for safely and effectively loading, stemming, tying-in, and shooting large diameter blast-hole patterns. This role requires a highly motivated individual who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and directing all activities on blast patterns in a safe and effective manner;
  • Conducting field tests to determine type and quantity of explosives required;
  • Addressing open pit drill and blast objectives, assumptions, needs, and results;
  • Working with various teams in the open pit;
  • Mentoring Blaster helpers;
  • Coordinating activities across a variety of groups (Geology, Mine Operations etc);
  • Following all explosives regulations and site procedures; and
  • Providing leadership for all team members, especially on the safety front.

Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, this role is based in the Mine Operations department and involves a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Requirements:

  • Certified Blaster with NWT Blasting Certificate;
  • Five to eight years of experience in mining industry, preferably with operations in an open pit;
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Ability to work well at a fast pace;
  • Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental standards; and
  • Experience working at a remote mining site and in a cross-cultural work environment.
