About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and caring individual to join our team as an On Call Child and Youth Program Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Nation's children in a recreational, cultural, and educational manner, providing positive mentorship and support.

The successful candidate will work under the general direction of the Youth Wellness and Child Wellness Coordinators, with support and direction from the Wellness Centre Manager. They will collaborate with other youth employees to plan and execute activities, and be the primary contact point for their respective participant cohort.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Child Wellness Coordinator to develop activity plans and participant guidelines.
  • Provide lead on guiding program safety plans and incident reporting.
  • Work with the Youth Wellness Coordinator to understand participants' goals, needs, and abilities, and provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Provide direct service programming to children during After-School programming, Pro D Day Camps, Spring Break Camp, and the Summer Fun Program.
  • Lead the team in activity facilitation and ensure supplies and gear are organized for each activity.
  • Be a caring mentor to the children in programming, listening to their needs, supporting them to complete activities, and ensuring safety measures are followed.
  • Communicate with the Child Wellness Coordinator on a weekly or as-needed basis about feedback, concerns, or requests for support.
  • Attend team meetings and training as requested.
Requirements:
  • Minimum age requirement is 15 years.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal record check.
  • First Aid Certification is required.
  • Experience working with children in a recreation or education setting is an asset.
  • Experience leading and facilitating child/youth programs is an asset.
  • Must be available for work between Monday and Friday after school (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM), Pro D Days, Spring Break, and Summer Break. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
