Job Summary:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to clients under the direction of the Program Coordinator and/or Physiotherapist (PT) associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads fitness classes to clients with various fitness levels and goals.
  • Works with clients to develop and achieve their fitness goals.
  • Participates in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery processes.
  • Attends educational in-services and training sessions as required.
  • Provides fall prevention education and other health-related services as directed.
  • Reports any incidents or concerns to the PT or Coordinator.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting of incidents and equipment defects.
  • Complies with OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.

External and Internal Relationships:

  • Frequent interaction with Program Coordinators, Physiotherapists, and clients.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor or equivalent required at time of hire or within 3 months.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Experience working in assisted living environments, such as recreation therapy, is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

Other:

  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Current criminal background check, including vulnerable sector screen, is required.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques.
  • Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics.
  • Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs.
  • Hand movements.
