Job Summary

At Sun Life, we're seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting department, you'll be responsible for evaluating medical, personal, and financial information to determine eligibility for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex medical, personal, and financial information to assess risk and make informed decisions
  • Classify risk and gather additional information as needed to ensure accurate assessments
  • Approve cases within authority limits and submit cases exceeding limits for co-signature
  • Negotiate with reinsurers to secure favorable decisions for clients
  • Liaise with business leaders and advisors to deliver exceptional service and expertise
  • Respond to inquiries from financial advisors and general agents while maintaining confidentiality
Requirements
  • Bilingualism in French and English, both oral and written, to interact with colleagues and partners across Canada and worldwide
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter
  • Existing Life and Critical Illness signing authorities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Strong analytical, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of medicine and risk factors
  • Service-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Specialized training and commitment to ongoing education
