Operations Director

We are a pioneering company in the raw food manufacturing industry for dogs and cats with over 20 years of experience. Our state-of-the-art facility is located in Port Coquitlam and has experienced significant growth in recent years. We supply our products to specialty pet food retailers across the country.
Job SummaryWe are seeking an exceptional Operations Director to lead our operations team and drive business growth. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing daily operations, including purchasing, scheduling, manufacturing, warehousing, shipping/receiving, and quality assurance. They will be responsible for controlling operational aspects, such as EBITA, profit and loss, inventory, production planning, health and safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Day-to-Day Operations: Ensure the successful implementation of business operations, including purchasing, scheduling, manufacturing, warehousing, shipping/receiving, and quality assurance.
- Operational Control: Manage all operational aspects, including EBITA, profit and loss, inventory, production planning, health and safety, and compliance.
- Team Development: Develop and nurture a dynamic and competent workforce through coaching, mentoring, inspiring, and leading by example.
- Health and Safety: Manage health and safety policies and procedures, provide employees with regular HSE training, and lead the Health and Safety Committee.
- Certification Processes: Lead the operations team through the implementation of SQF/GFSI certification processes.
- Export Requirements: Oversee and guide the operations team in meeting specific export packaging, labeling, and compliance requirements and meet export standards for the US and Asian market.
- Maintenance and Facilities: Support the maintenance supervisor with facility and equipment maintenance and coordinate with the landlord for facility management.
- Cross-Training and Process Improvement: Promote cross-training to optimize the workforce, ensuring functional coverage, reducing labor costs, and supporting succession planning. Improve, optimize, and implement processes to maximize equipment and staff efficiency and scale operations for increased production volume.
- 5+ years in a supervisory or management role in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food manufacturing.
- A strong emotional intelligence and strategic thinking skills.
- Demonstrated expertise with SQF implementation and US food exporting.
- Proven ability with managing changes in a production facility or process.
- Experience scaling up new products and supporting their introduction into the market.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including time management, scheduling, prioritizing tasks, and delegating to-dos.
- A deep commitment to health and safety standards, with a thorough understanding of best practices in workplace safety.
