Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Government Lawyer and Compliance Expert to join our team at the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our clients meet the necessary financial administration laws and regulations.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in law, with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a similar capacity. You will be responsible for providing guidance and support to our clients on the development, enactment, and approval of financial administration laws and bylaws. This includes reviewing and recommending changes to existing laws and bylaws, as well as drafting new ones as needed.

You will also be responsible for conducting informal and formal legal reviews of financial administration laws and bylaws, ensuring that they comply with the First Nations Fiscal Management Act (FMA) and other relevant regulations. Additionally, you will provide expert advice to our clients on compliance matters, including interpreting and applying the FMA and other related legislation.

In this role, you will work closely with our Director, Indigenous Engagement, Laws & Relations, as well as other members of our team to ensure that our clients receive the highest level of service. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including clients, external lawyers, and government officials.
