After Hours Clinical Manager

JOB SUMMARY
The After Hours Clinical Manager is the most senior clinical leader on-site, responsible for addressing all issues that arise in consultation with the Senior Leader on-call. This role encompasses oversight of all clinical areas, coordination of patient flow across the organization, and providing support to staff, patients, and visitors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patient Flow Management:
- Ensure the emergency department has minimal patient wait times for inpatient beds.
- Understand and implement processes for assigning beds when all existing beds are occupied.
- Coordinate patient transfers to other healthcare facilities locally, within Ontario, or in the United States.
- Facilitate seamless admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients across hospital services, including emergency departments and inpatient units.
- Identify obstacles to inpatient bed availability and propose solutions.
- Nursing Staff Resource Management:
- Demonstrate knowledge of corporate programs and services.
- Understand staffing ratios for various programs, services, and clinical areas, considering patient acuity and staff experience.
- Be familiar with Collective Agreements governing staff roles and responsibilities.
- Effectively allocate nursing staff resources based on patient needs and operational requirements.
- Program Team Development:
- Foster regular communication between nursing and support teams to ensure smooth information flow across the organization.
- Provide leadership with reports and feedback on opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to nursing staff performance evaluations, particularly in situations requiring disciplinary action.
- Safety and Health:
- Assume supervisory responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Report, investigate incidents or hazards, and implement corrective actions.
- Regularly inspect work areas to identify and eliminate potential hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, required.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, required.
- 3-5 years of healthcare managerial experience and/or equivalent healthcare experience preferred.
- Minimum 5 years relevant clinical experience, required.
- French Language proficiency is an asset.
