Role Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Expert to join our team at Women in Payments as a Senior Advisor, Payments Data Governance. In this role, you will be responsible for enforcing and overseeing the implementation of new data governance policies, standards, processes, and tools to mature our data management capability within the Payments division.

As a Senior Advisor, Payments Data Governance, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our data is managed effectively and securely.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Embeds data governance considerations specific to Payments into new and/or existing Payments processes (e.g., procurement) and reviews RFPs, contracts, and Investment Panel documentation to proactively identify potential data governance issues and make strategic recommendations on how issues can be mitigated.
  • Develops a data-sharing process to manage data requests from Transit Agencies based on the Data Sharing Policy and ensures documentation of metadata including sensitivity classification, data dictionary, and data quality for data shared with the Transit Agencies.
  • Ensures alignment with the Enterprise Data Governance Program by understanding and employing data governance best practices to lead workstreams, provide data governance expertise, and mature the Data Governance across the Payments Division.
  • Collaborates in configuring and managing the Azure Purview as the data governance tool to support data governance objectives and compliance for the Payments Division.
  • Establishes enforcement protocols and procedures that outline what constitutes non-compliance around key data governance focus areas of data catalogue, metadata management, reference data, and data quality and develops an oversight framework for data governance oversight.
  • Partners with Payments business stakeholders to drive continuous improvement of our data management capabilities, finds opportunities to improve data quality, practices, and outcomes, and ensures data governance and management considerations have been incorporated into the development of data-related projects and procurement of new services and systems across Payments.
  • Manages, monitors, and improves Payments processes to address data requests coming from the Freedom of Information (FOI) by working with data owners/stewards and other business stakeholders.
  • Partners with Payments data owners, Payments data stewards, data custodians (including data architects), other data partners such as Privacy and Records and Information Management, and vendors to manage the process around metadata capture and maintenance, evolves our division business glossary, data classification, and facilitates the linkage between business definitions and the underlying technical metadata.
  • Regularly reports on the health and maturity of the Payments Data Governance by creating and monitoring workstream project plans, tracking milestones and risks, and developing KPIs and metrics.
  • Contributes to the development of appropriate materials and conducts training sessions for Payments employees to drive data governance best practices.
  • Supports the management and implementation of the AI governance framework to oversee the ethical and responsible use and deployment of AI technologies in payments, ensuring alignment with organizational and regulatory standards.
What You Need To Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Data Management, or related field. Demonstrated years of experience in data governance, data management, data analysis, or in a data steward/owner type role.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: metadata management, business glossary creation, data classification, data quality, data catalogue, and/or implementation of data governance tools.
  • Experience defining and building data governance enforcement and oversight processes solutions, and associated documentation to strengthen data management capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence and manage different stakeholder perspectives in a cross-functional environment and effectively communicate with people at all levels in both business and technical teams.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or similar is considered an asset, as is knowledge of data governance and data management frameworks (e.g., DAMA, DCAM, CMMI DMM).
  • Functional understanding of Agile methodology, Cloud and Big Data technologies, Azure technologies, and architectural concepts - data lake, data warehouse, relational databases, data ingestion, ETL, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of data regulations, privacy, responsible use of AI, data sharing, critical data indicators, access management, etc.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple project workstreams and experience developing and using KPIs.
  • A team player with high attention to detail and a strong desire for continuous program improvement and excellence.
About the Location:

The successful candidate will be located in the Greater Toronto Area and will be required to work from home and occasionally travel to Metrolinx offices. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.

Estimated Salary Range:

$120,000 - $150,000 per year.
