Job Overview:

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our Quality Assurance Department, ensuring compliance with all management systems and customer requirements. Key responsibilities include effective management of company Quality and Environmental Management Systems, planning, creation, review, and approval of engineering and quality documents, and promoting multidisciplinary teams in the review and management of APQP.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership for the development of an environmental focused quality system
  • Manage the Quality Assurance Department and staff therein, to ensure compliance to all management systems and customer requirements
  • Effective management of company Quality and Environmental Management Systems, ensuring their relevancy, documentation, review and updating to reflect the current and changing needs of the organization, its customers and legislative requirements
  • Maintain monthly Business Operating System performance and initiate actions for processes not meeting target
  • Liaise with Engineering / Program Management to manage the planning, creation, review and approval of all engineering and quality documents including Feasibility Sign-Offs, DFMEA, DVP&R, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, Designs and Drawings, Dimensional and Statistical Studies, Timelines
  • Plan a key role in ensuring project deliveries and promoting multidisciplinary teams in the review and management of APQP
  • Participate in the interaction with current Customers to best understand and address their product needs are consistent with company business plan
  • Review customer data relative to performance of the company in the eyes of the customer and promote actions to improve customer satisfaction
  • Ensure that customer issues are resolved in a timely and logical manner
  • Oversee performance of individuals reporting to role and document their performance at least annually
  • Responsible for mentoring, training, discipline and remuneration of employees relative to company guidelines
  • Implement and maintain Quality and Environmental Management System documentation (policies, manuals, process plans and maps, procedures, work instructions, forms, documents of external origin) and ensure all in-house QMS and EMS are updated, revised and modified to meet the needs of external certification bodies
  • Oversee the reviews of all Scrap, Rework, Safety, and Quality issues to determine effective tooling and process countermeasures to prevent reoccurrences
  • Champion a program for implementation and sustainment of a continuous improvement (CI) culture ; participate in developing CI projects to reduce costs, waste, improve efficiencies and quality
  • Implement and maintain an Internal Audit program ; manage annual internal audits of QMS and EMS processes, manufacturing processes, and products to ensure compliance to customer and legislated requirements and the changing needs of the company
  • Management of scheduled annual external audits by the company Registrar as well as supplier audits with Purchasing
  • Respond to customer complaints putting in containment actions, root cause analysis and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures to resolve problems ; point of contact for warranty issues
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or Diploma
  • 10 years of work experience in managing engineering, quality and environmental systems
  • 3 years+ experience in quality management, ideally in a unionized setting
  • Experience with plastic or rubber injection processes an asset
  • Experience managing product, materials and process development from a quality perspective
  • Experience implementing and maintaining IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 quality and environmental management systems
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of APQP, PPAP, Tier 1 and Tier 2 customer specific requirements, TS quality functions and responsibilities
  • Good documentation skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and accountability
  • Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office)
  • Continuous improvement experience
